About the Event

The Loop Sunset to Sunrise is a brand-new overnight running and walking experience launching this year in the stunning Heritage Zone of Mont Choisy Golf Estate, which will serve as our event base camp.

Designed as an inclusive 12-hour challenge, the course follows a loop through the golf and estate, with no maximum time requirement to complete each loop, making it just as welcoming for walkers as it is for runners.

Each participant will be allocated a designated personal space at base camp to set up essentials such as food, water, a change of clothes, and sleeping equipment, returning after every loop for timekeeping, refuelling, and rest before heading back out whenever they feel ready.

For this inaugural edition, entries will be limited to 140 participants, creating a safe and supportive atmosphere throughout the night. Friends and family are warmly invited to join on site, cheer runners on, and share in the experience as they see their athlete after every loop, building a true sense of community from dusk to dawn.

From the moment the sun sets to the first light rising over the golf greens, we are committed to delivering a memorable first edition that feels as unique as the island itself.

Event Rules & Regulations

After the launch of the first edition of The Loop Backyard Ultra in 2025, The Loop is opening a fresh chapter in the North: The Loop Sunset to Sunrise, a new overnight loop challenge at Mont Choisy Golf Estate, from 6pm to 6am, where participants can run or walk, return to base camp after each loop, and experience Mauritius from dusk to dawn.

Race Rules and Regulations

Course & Loop Format

  • The race is run on an 8 km loop within Mont Choisy Golf Estate.
  • The route follows the asphalted golf cart track and is designed to be as flat as possible, with minimal elevation gain.
  • The course will be clearly marked at all times. For night running, fluorescent and reflective markers will be added to ensure visibility and runner safety.
  • The event runs from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am (overnight).
  • The course is a fixed loop. Participants may complete as many full loops as they wish during the event time.

Loop completion & tracking

  • To count, a loop must be completed in full and follow the official course markings at all times.
  • Timing/scoring is based on complete loops only (partial loops do not count).
  • Scanning pods are installed along the course to confirm that each participant completes the full loop.
  • Each runner will receive a race bracelet with an embedded pod that is automatically scanned on the track.
  • The bracelet remains the property of the organizers and must be returned after the race on withdrawal or at the finish.

No cut-off per loop / no rest limit

  • There is no maximum time to complete a loop.
  • There is no maximum time to rest at base camp between loops.
  • Participants manage their own pace, breaks, food, and recovery while respecting all safety rules.

Starting a new loop (last departures)

  • Runners may start a new loop at any time until 5:30 am.
  • No runner will be allowed to leave base camp for a new loop after 5:30 am.

End of event / course closure

  • The course closes at 6:00 am.
  • At 6:00 am, participants may be asked to return to base camp immediately, even if they are midway through a loop.
  • Any loop not completed before course closure will be recorded as incomplete and will not count.

Withdrawal - mandatory notification

  • If a runner decides to stop, they must inform the Race Organisers at base camp as soon as possible.
  • A runner is officially withdrawn only once the organisers have been notified and the runner is checked in at base camp.

Assistance & support

  • Only one assistant/crew member is permitted per runner.
  • Assistants must remain in designated areas (base camp / authorised zones) and must follow staff instructions at all times.
  • Any outside support given on the Loop course (outside authorised areas) may lead to disqualification.
  • No assistance may be given on the start line / immediate start area. If you need help, step aside away from the start zone.
  • No assistance is permitted during a loop. Any food, fluids or gear needed on-course must be carried by the runner.
  • Assistance is permitted only between loops, after you complete a loop and before you start the next one.

Winner & ranking

  • The winner is the runner who completes the highest number of full loops before the 6:00 am course closure.
  • If two or more runners finish with the same number of loops, the organisers may apply a tie-break method (e.g., fastest last completed loop or earliest completion of the final counted loop), as defined by the official timing/scoring team.

Safety & organiser authority

  • The organisers may stop a runner or end a runner’s participation for safety reasons (health concern, rule breach, or unsafe behaviour).
  • All runners must follow course markings, marshal instructions, and any updated safety announcements during the night

Base Camp Etiquette

  • If you withdraw, you may be asked to vacate your rest area space so other runners can reorganise closer to the start line at base camp (when applicable).
  • Runners must use the toilets provided at base camp and must not relieve themselves anywhere on the course.
  • Please help us keep base camp calm and quiet so runners can rest and stay focused; thank you for remembering this is a race support area, not a children’s playground.
